Living Christmas Tree Company

living christmas tree

This section is for IF YOU LIVE IN Portland, Oregon.  We deliver 6', 7 1/2' and 9' tall potted evergreen Christmas trees. After New Years we pick them up and they get planted in watersheds to grow old. Our clients Christmas trees are planted around schools, churches, in parks etc all over the Northwest. 2010 is our nineteenth year in a row since 1992. We offer around 400 trees each year. Consider spending at least 10 minutes viewing this whole website. There are ten pages listed in the upper left corner of this page. You can scroll down on each page to see info about; news articles about us, photos, history of the Christmas treeChristmas tree options, how to care for your living Christmas tree, buying trees from us after Christmas and NEW artists PDF files you can print.

You can have a full size living (potted) Christmas tree that you don't have to plant in your backyard. We put your tree right next to your front door, just slide it inside your home. After New Years slide it outside your front door and we pick it up and it gets planted for you to grow old.  Woohoo right? Now, besides the fact that our clients Christmas trees are planted to clean their share of air pollution...  It's really neat to have a living tree in your home!

You can order your living Christmas tree by viewing this website then paying with Pay Pal or mailing us a check. We also need a $20 deposit check mailed to us, (we don't cash it unless we don't get your tree back after New Years). A guideline for when to order is
'as soon as you can make it comfortable for you'. Because we need to put our delivery routes together, please order sooner rather than later. Repeat clients order each year before Halloween to pay our 'earlybird special' price. Our regular price ends 12/7. We have to charge our highest price from 12/8 through around 12/17 when we sell out (because we have to retrace our delivery routes). We sell out of some kinds of trees as early as 12/1. After around 12/7 we usually have only 5' & 6' trees available. We always charge less if you choose to get your tree, and return it to us, in your vehicle. Our order form (and delivery area) are on the order form page.  Woohoo right?!  Thank you. Merry Christmas.

This section is for IF YOU DON'T LIVE IN PORTLAND, OREGON. We are the only* such service in the world and we offer trees to only Portland Oregon. If you don't live in Portland Oregon and are interested in having a living (potted) Christmas tree click on our Outside Portland page. It's possible to turn Christmas into a tree planting holiday wherever you live! Consider spending at least 10 minutes checking viewing this whole website. There is a list of the ten pages of this website is in the upper left corner of this page. If you don't live in Portland Oregon, the only thing we can help you with is on our Outside Portland page. (*If you live in; San Diego, San Francisco, Vancouver B.C. or one town in England there are similar services there, and only there in the world, as far as we know.) Links to those areas are on our Outside Portland page. There is information on that page about how you can conveniently do for yourself what we do here in Portland for Portlanders. Also there is information there if you might consider running your own living Christmas tree franchise.  Woohoo right!? Thank you. Merry Christmas.

Trees: The types of trees we have available are below, (subject to change). All trees are cultured shape, not sheered (unless noted natural). Natural shape trees have not been pruned (cultured) at all. Tip height is from floor, (so tip height includes pot height from floor to top of pot which is about one foot). All trees shape is 'conical' which means the overall outline is widest at bottom and tapering to tip at top. We hand select each individual tree. See photos below for visual shape of tree and needles. Tip of 9' tree is 9' to 10'. Tip of 7.5' tree is 7.5' to 7' 9". Tip of 6' tree is close to 6'.

How long you would have your tree:
For the health of your tree after planting, you'd have your tree inside your home between Sunday 12/1/10 by 5pm and Sunday 1/2/10pm (3 weeks). Please put your tree outside your front door before you go to bed on Sunday 1/2/10.
(If you want special arrangements, email us.)

Delivery: Your tree will be delivered by Thursday 12/16/10 by 5pm. You do not have to be home for the delivery, we put it next to your front door. Our delivery area is best described by zip code. We deliver to: 97201, 97202, 97203, 97204, 97205, 97206 - but not south of Flavel, 97209, 97210- but not north of Vaughn, 97211, 97212, 97213, 97214, 97215, 97217, 97218, 97219- but not south of Taylors Ferry Rd, 97221, 97223- but not south of Taylors Ferry, 97225, 97227, 97232, 97239. Pickup: Your tree needs to be undecorated and outside your home Sunday 1/2/11 before you go to bed. We start picking up trees early morning the next day. If your tree is not ready for us when we arrive, we need to keep the deposit check (we'll come back and get it or you can keep it).

Or choose to 'Get and Return' your tree in your vehicle: Only the 6' size trees are available for you to 'Get/Return'. Get your tree Friday 12/10 (or we'll work out a time that is convenient). Return your tree the first week of January. Any car with a trunk is best. If you have a; hatchback, van or truck, they work but a car with a trunk works best, (the tree root-pot goes in the trunk and the tree sticks up & out.) You might choose this option if you; live outside our delivery area, want your tree for a party 12/10,11 or if you want to save a few bucks.

Taking care of your living Christmas tree:
The following are the basics of care, no: tinsel, flock (fake snow) or big (thumb size) lights. The lights that are small, (pencil erasure size) are the only kinds of lights to use because they don't get as hot as the big lights. Also, it's important to keep tree as cool (temperature) as possible. Put it near a window if possible, cover floor heating vent near tree and turn the heat down to around 60 degrees when not at home. If you heat your home with a woodstove or fireplace please don't order, the air is too dry for the tree. If you have a humidifier bring it out for your tree. If you don't have a humidifier nevermind that idea.
Here´s a link to the full care recommendations.

Special arrangements: If your tree needs to go up or downstairs inside your home, definitely order a 5' tree - they weigh the least- around 60 pounds. If you live in an apartment/condo with a shared secure main door, email us so we know your specific delivery requirements. We don't bring the trees inside residences, we do deliver trees inside businesses. We don't offer a fee for delivery outside our delivery area because it costs too much for the customer and hence we don't see reorders the following year. We offer huge (25') trees for special occasions. If you want to keep your tree and plant it yourself in your backyard or wherever you can, just let us know and we cash your deposit check. We don't deliver earlier than 12/12, we're just too busy sorry (but we do for huge trees). See our Frequently Asked Questions And Answers page of this site for any questions not answered here.
